Leonardo da Vinci

Avancon modern Conveyor System for Airport Checkpoints

Avancon has manufactured more than 400 conveyor lines for several airports in North America. These were simple Avancon ZPC conveyors with OTU transfer tables. Some trays could be moved manually, while on others the trans were automatically moved to the CT scanner or automatically delivered to a manual control line via OTU tables.

The TSA, the Transportation Security Admini-stration in the USA, will install these or similar systems at all airports in the USA in the future.

Many airports worldwide are already installing the latest CT scanners, which can analyze baggage better with so-called “full-line” scanning systems. These newer systems automatically transport passengers' hand luggage through a fully automated cycle. After passengers have put their hand-luggage and other things into the trays, the trays pass through the scanner. Then they are emptied by the passengers and automatically return to the pick-up point through a non visible system below the scanner. In addition, the person operating the scanner can control the automatic passage through the scanner or transfer the trays to a manual inspection line if certain pieces could not be definitively recognized.

The Avancon ZPC conveyor concept fits perfectly to the modern scanners and offers all requirements for these systems as standard already.

Avancon calls their new automatic conveyor line “ATC” , Automatic Tray Circuit”. See the video, how it works.

The new Avancon  ATC Automatic Tray Circuit system with Avancon ZPC conveyor for modern checkpoints

The normal Avancon conveyor line for checkpoints in airports

Here you see a video of the Avancon ATC (Automatic Tray Circuit) system for checkpoints in airports combined with the ultimate CT scanner. This shows how it functions. - Just in the test phase.

It works with the standard Avancon ZPC concept, which delivers automatically all conveyors with zero pressure accumulation ability.

You will see here also some special effects.

Why do we call it Avancon “ATC” (Automatic Tray Circuit)? Because it is not just a “return system” or a “full line”. It is a real circuit. As shown in the video, this circuit is completely filled with trays (or bins) that circulate throughout the system, creating sufficient reserve in the lower accumulation line and moving everything - as standard - through the circuit with “zero pressure”.

The entire system consists of individual modules, so it can be easily expanded or shortened.

Here you see the Circuit in the cut-away view.

More is explained in the video.

That is the trouble with flying: We always have to return to airports. Think of how much fun flying would be if we didn’t

have to return to airports.
